Set Sail for Storytime - A Minecraft Education Solar System
Continue the adventure from Look Up! as young explorers journey beyond the skies in an interactive Minecraft Education workshop, discovering planets, stars and galaxies before designing their own solar systems. Inspired by the Royal Navy’s long tradition of navigation, observation and technological innovation, participants will use creativity, problem-solving and digital skills to explore what might lie beyond our own world.
The adventure doesn’t stop when Captain Compass looks up! Following the reading of 'Look Up!', young explorers will continue their journey into space with an interactive Minecraft Education workshop delivered by TMC Computing Limited.
Participants will enter the James Webb Space Telescope Challenge, an educational experience created in partnership with NASA, where they can explore planets, stars, galaxies and the formation of solar systems. They’ll discover how planets can differ in size, colour, temperature and composition, and investigate how powerful telescopes allow scientists to observe parts of the universe that would otherwise remain hidden.
Inspired by the Royal Navy’s long history of navigation, observation and exploration, participants will consider how people have used technology to understand and navigate the world around them, from observing the stars at sea to using powerful telescopes to explore beyond Earth.
Then it’s time to become the designers! Using Minecraft Education, participants can recreate our solar system or invent an entirely new one, choosing their star, planets, moons, rings and even whether life could exist there. This creative challenge develops digital skills, planning, spatial awareness and problem-solving while encouraging children to experiment, make decisions and explain their ideas.
Whether they follow the science or let their imagination take flight, every creation becomes a new world waiting to be explored.
