Set Sail For Story Time
Dive beneath the waves with Captain Compass to discover some of the ocean's most extraordinary creatures in this wonderfully quirky adventure inspired by Odd Fish. Through storytelling and hands-on exploration, families will uncover how adaptation, curiosity and scientific discovery help us better understand life beneath the sea.
While exploring the waters surrounding HMS Warrior, Captain Compass makes a remarkable discovery. Swimming nearby is a creature unlike anything he's ever seen before. Is it a fish? Is it something completely different? And why does it look so unusual? Together with Eddison, Ratty and a crew of curious young explorers, the Captain sets out to solve the mystery.
Inspired by Odd Fish, this interactive storytelling adventure celebrates biodiversity, adaptation and the incredible variety of life beneath the waves. Through games, audience participation and imaginative investigation, children will discover how different animals have evolved unique features to survive in the world's oceans, while learning that being different can often be a remarkable strength.
For centuries, the Royal Navy has explored seas around the world, helping scientists observe marine life and deepen our understanding of the natural environment. Today, protecting our oceans and the creatures that live within them remains as important as ever. This playful session encourages children to become young marine explorers who look closely, ask questions and care for the world around them.
The journey doesn't end there, as families are invited to continue their adventure at the Learning Centre in the Victory Gallery, where hands-on activities bring each story's ideas to life through real experimentation and discovery. Created through a partnership between Royal Navy Museums and TYC Arts & Education CIC, the project brings together heritage and creative education to spark STEM curiosity in young audiences.
This event is made possible with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
