Set sail for story time

Captain Compass has always dreamed of discovering somewhere completely new. There's just one small problem – every time he sets off on an adventure, something exciting distracts him along the way! With help from Eddison, Ratty and a crew of enthusiastic young explorers, the Captain must plot a course, navigate obstacles and make the right decisions to complete his greatest voyage yet.

Inspired by The Boy Who Sailed the World, this interactive storytelling adventure celebrates exploration, resilience and the excitement of discovering what lies beyond the horizon. Through imaginative play, movement and audience participation, children will learn how maps, compasses and careful navigation have helped sailors travel safely across the world's oceans for centuries.

Exploration has always been central to the story of the Royal Navy. From charting unfamiliar waters to connecting people and places across the globe, sailors have relied on teamwork, determination and problem-solving to overcome the unknown. This playful session encourages children to see every challenge as the start of a new adventure.

Supporting the National Year of Reading "Go All In" campaign, the session celebrates the power of stories to transport us to new places and inspire lifelong curiosity.

The journey doesn't end there, as families are invited to continue their adventure at the Learning Centre in the Victory Gallery, where hands-on activities bring each story's ideas to life through real experimentation and discovery. Created through a partnership between Royal Navy Museums and TYC Arts & Education CIC, the project brings together heritage and creative education to spark STEM curiosity in young audiences.
