Set Sail For Story Time
Join Captain Compass on an uplifting adventure inspired by Look Up! as young explorers discover that the greatest discoveries often begin with curiosity and careful observation. Through storytelling, imaginative play and hands-on participation, families will explore the wonders of the night sky while uncovering the Royal Navy's long history of navigating by the stars.
Captain Compass is certain he has spotted something extraordinary high above the Dockyard. The only trouble is, now that everyone is looking, he can't seem to find it again! Armed with telescopes, imagination and plenty of help from his crew, young explorers will join Captain Compass, Eddison and Ratty on a journey of discovery to uncover the mysteries waiting overhead.
Inspired by Look Up!, this interactive storytelling adventure celebrates curiosity, observation and the excitement of asking questions. Along the way, families will discover how generations of Royal Navy sailors relied on the stars to navigate vast oceans long before modern technology existed. Through audience participation, movement and imaginative problem-solving, children will explore how looking carefully at the world around us can lead to extraordinary discoveries.
Supporting the National Year of Reading "Go All In" campaign, this session encourages families to enjoy stories together while inspiring children to become curious learners and confident explorers.
The journey doesn't end there, as families are invited to continue their adventure at the Learning Centre in the Victory Gallery, where hands-on activities bring each story's ideas to life through real experimentation and discovery. Created through a partnership between Royal Navy Museums and TYC Arts & Education CIC, the project brings together heritage and creative education to spark STEM curiosity in young audiences.
