Set Sail for Story Time
Join Augustine and Ratty on a sea-themed detective adventure as they investigate what has happened to Stanley and discover how plastic pollution can affect marine life. Families will use movement, observation, prediction and imagination to explore the ocean, while thinking about the small actions we can all take to help keep our seas clean.
This month’s Set Sail Programme story takes families beneath the waves to explore the impact of plastic pollution on marine life. Inspired by Somebody Swallowed Stanley, Augustine and Ratty need help solving a watery mystery and discovering what has happened to Stanley. Children will become part of the investigation through sea-themed movement, repeated call-and-response lines, careful observation and predictions about what might have swallowed him.
As the adventure develops, families will discover more about the creatures that live in our oceans and why keeping the marine environment clean matters. The story offers a playful way to build empathy for sea creatures while encouraging children to think about positive actions they can take to protect the world around them. Children will finish by sharing ideas for keeping our oceans clean.
The story will be read at 11am, 12pm and 1pm on board HMS Trincomalee. The journey doesn’t end there, as families are invited to continue their adventure at the Trinc Cabin from 11am-2pm , where hands-on activities bring each story’s ideas to life through real experimentation and discovery. Created through a partnership between Theatre Space North East, the project brings together heritage and creative education to spark STEM curiosity in young audiences.
