Set Sail for Story Time

Set sail with Augustine, Ratty and the Snorgh on an imaginative adventure where families will discover that trying something new can be exciting, even when it feels a little scary. Through movement, sounds, storytelling and playful exploration, children will help bring the seaside to life before imagining where their own Royal Navy adventure might take them.

This month’s Set Sail Programme story invites families to join Augustine and Ratty as they discover the power of imagination and the courage it can take to try something new. Inspired by The Snorgh and the Sailor, children will help create an entire seaside world using actions and sounds, becoming crashing waves, howling winds and calling seagulls as the story unfolds. They will then physically join the Snorgh’s journey, balancing, rocking, spinning and landing their way through an adventure full of surprises.

Along the way, children will be encouraged to listen carefully, predict what might happen next and think about how the characters are feeling. The story will be read at 11am, 12pm and 1pm on board HMS Trincomalee, offering families three opportunities to join the adventure. To finish, children can imagine where Augustine and HMS Trincomalee might sail next, adding their own adventures to colourful paper boats.

The journey doesn’t end there, as families are invited to continue their adventure at the Trinc Cabin from 11am-2pm , where hands-on activities bring each story’s ideas to life through real experimentation and discovery. Created through a partnership between Theatre Space North East, the project brings together heritage and creative education to spark STEM curiosity in young audiences.
